We're excited! After 4 months away (mom went to meet a boy in Colorado), Bossa Nova and his best friend Cha Cha will return to Cloud Dancer Alpacas on Monday, March 5, 2007. Here's a photo of Bossa Nova right before he left in November.
Update: In May Deb was elected to the ARI Board! She received the most votes of any candidate. She will be working with the Government and Industry Relations Committee, a joint committee between ARI and AOBA, serving as the ARI Board Liaison, and she will be working on the strategic planning initiative. Thank you to all who voted!
The first cria of the year is here! Meet Holy Conga!, a light fawn boy born Sunday Sept. 3, 2006. We are expecting two more in the next three weeks. Life is good!
The statewide alpaca breeders group, the Alpaca Breeders of Arizona (ABA) conducts a fiber pool every year. All ABA farm members are able to contribute fleeces to the pool. Work days are schedule where the fleeces are cleaned, evaluated and weighed. Fiber from across Arizona is collected and shipped to a Canadian mill where it is processed into products such as yarn and socks. For the second year in a row Deb is coordinating the fiber pool.
What a blast! Bolero and Yuma rode all the way to Kentucky to compete in the national show. We had to wait all the way until the end of the last day for our classes, but we are very pleased with the results! Yuma took 5th in a very competitive class of young grey males, and Bolero took 3rd in his class of juvenile multi-colored males. Bolero's judge, Jude Anderson, said he has 'designer genes written all over him'!
Pardon us, but we are bursting with excitement over our success at the Great Western Alpaca Show in Denver, May 5-8, 2006! Here are the results:
Cloud Dancer's Bolero: 6th in a large class of juvenile multi males (Mike Safely, Judge) McClintock's Yuma: 2nd in a larger class of yearling grey males (Mike Safely, Judge) Cloud Dancer's Paso Doble: 1st in a huge class of white juvenile males (Amanda VandenBosch, Judge) Bolero and Yuma will be at the AOBA national show - look for us at the turquoise curtains! Shearing will start on the last weekend in April. Typically we shear one or two alpacas a day, before or after work, and three or four each weekend day until all are finished. It is a dusty, dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it! To minimize stress to the alpacas (shearing is enough stress, as they see it) we restrict visitors during this time. Please call ahead to see if we can have any room left for observers. (928) 526-4363
Hey alpaca yarn fans! We have great news for you! A new shipment of 100% alpaca yarn, 100% handpainted suri yarn, and 100% alpaca with a synthetic metallic thread for glitz has arrived. Spring colors abound!
